April 3, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - In support of spinal cord injury research, the New York Red Bulls are honored to host the fifth annual Wings for Life Match on Saturday, April 6 versus Minnesota United FC at 7 p.m. ET. There will be an online auction starting Saturday at 7 p.m. ET through April 17 at 2 p.m. with proceeds going directly to Wings for Life, which includes an opportunity for a FIFA clinic with Red Bulls eMLS player Mike LaBelle.
U.S. Paralympic Athlete and motivational speaker Joe Delagrave will speak with the team on Friday ahead of the Minnesota match and will deliver the match ball.
Delagrave, captain of the USA Wheelchair Rugby squad, was named the 2012 and 2015 U.S. Quad Rugby Association Athlete of the Year. He helped Team USA to a bronze finish at the 2012 Paralympics Games. With 11 years of experience as an elite athlete on the National Team, he has been able to provide coaching and consulting to athletes looking to gain cutting edge strategies in the game of wheelchair rugby.
The Red Bulls are encouraging fans to visit newyorkredbulls.com/wingsforlife when purchasing tickets to this game. A portion of the sale goes directly to the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation, a registered 501c3 tax-exempt organization with a mission of finding a cure for spinal cord injury.
As part of the foundation's efforts, the sixth edition of the Wings for Life World Run is set for May 5, 2019 where runners and wheelchair participants join a simultaneous global race that is truly unique. Instead of a finish line, people take off side by side to keep ahead of a Catcher Car. The United States race will take place in Sunrise, Fla. In addition, an app run feature allows anyone/anywhere to run with the world via the Wings for Life World Run app, available in the App Store.
One hundred percent of entry fees and donations goes directly to the nonprofit Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation, for life-changing spinal cord research.
