New York, NY - The Power defeated Penn State University, 5-1, in a preseason scrimmage held at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. The scrimmage, played in three 30-minute periods, was the fourth of five preseason games the Power will play before opening their third WUSA season April 5 against the Atlanta Beat in Atlanta.

Former Nittany Lion standout and the Power's first round draft pick, Christie Welsh, put on a show against her former teammates, scoring two goals, her first and second in a Power uniform. Welsh got the Power on the board in the sixth minute, when she raced past the PSU defense and unleashed a left-footed shot that found the back of the net.

In the 19th minute, Emily Janss used the back of her foot to tap home a cross from Christie Pearce, putting the Power up 2-0.

PSU cut the lead in half in the 50th minute, when junior Heidi Drummond connected on a corner kick taken by fellow junior Joanne Lohman.

Janss would tally her second goal of the afternoon in the 74th minute, when she blasted a 25-yard shot past a diving keeper, making it 3-1 in favor of the Power.

The Power would tally again in the 82nd minute, when after a scramble in the box, Tammy Pearman neatly slipped the ball past a diving Penn State keeper. Under a minute later, Welsh finished off the scoring making the game 5-1. Welsh stole the ball from the PSU defense, and raced in beating the keeper for her second goal of the game.
