New York Guardians News Release
Jersey City, NJ. - The New York Guardians (1-2) will host the Los Angeles Wildcats (1-2) on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 2PM EST at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The game will be nationally televised on ABC.
The Guardians lost their second straight game yesterday in front of nearly 30,000 in St. Louis as the BattleHawks (2-1) prevailed 29-9. Despite QB Matt McGloin starting the game, a rib injury would prevent him from returning at the half and allowed for both Marquise Williams and Luis Perez to get snaps. Williams led the team with 94 yards in the air, but it was Perez who found the endzone on a short pass to Austin Duke. The Guardians rushed for over 100 yards for the first time this season, led by Tim Cook and Darius Victor who combined for 92 yards on 18 carries. Both Austin Duke and Justin Stockton recorded over 40 yards receiving and Bunmi Rotimi led the Guardians in tackles for the third straight game.
After the game, Kevin Gilbride spoke to the media about his opponent "They (Jonathan Hayes and his staff) came in very well prepared with some innovative ideas, especially on special teams." Gilbride continued to speak about his own team's efforts, "We played hard, but we didn't play smart... Too many errors to win a football game against a good football team. There were areas that we showed improvement and I was pleased with that, but you can't beat the opponent and yourself at the same time."
