EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - A blocked field goal and steady quarterback play from Luis Perez propelled the New York Guardians (2-2) to a 17-14 Week 4 victory over the Los Angeles Wildcats (1-3).

Perez was pressed into starting at quarterback with Matt McGloin inactive. Working in conjunction with an effective New York Guardians run game, the slinger helped defeat his former LA squad.

However, LA kicker Nick Novak had a field-goal attempt blocked by Jarrell Owens and later pushed wide to the right a 44-yard try in the fourth that would've tied it.

The Guardians (2-2) halted a two-game losing streak by leaning on an efficient, safe effort from Perez (18-for-26, 150 yards) highlighted by beautiful TD showcased below.

The Wildcats (1-3) thrived through the air in defeat. Josh Johnson piled up 330 passing yards and accounted for two touchdowns, with Tre McBride registering eight catches, 1277 yards and a TD on 12 targets.

PEAK PERFORMANCES

WILDCATS

With offensive dynamos Nelson Spruce (knee) and Martez Carter (hip) inactive, McBride stepped up. Following a two-touchdown Week 3 performance, he topped 100 receiving yards for the second straight week, marking his role as a potent downfield weapon while helping Johnson stretch the field.

Safety Ahmad Dixon flew all over the field with a season-high 14 combined tackles (nine solo), and defensive end Devin Taylor recorded 1.5 sacks.

GUARDIANS

Defensive end Jarrell Owens feasted, registered two sacks, hitting the QB four times, and blocking the Wildcats field goal. That timely deflection provided the margin of victory.

Victor led the revival of New York's run game; those ground struggles couldn't save erratic QB play the first three weeks but proved crucial to let the Guardians possess the ball for 33:09.
