New York City FC Launch #SupportYourCity Playoff Campaign
October 26, 2016 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York City FC News Release
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Today, New York City FC has officially launched the #SupportYourCity playoff campaign, a rallying cry for all New Yorkers to get behind the Club as they enter playoffs for the first time in team history.
New York City agencies - including the Department of Transportation, FDNY, Taxi & Limo, the Department of Sanitation, the Mayor's Office of People with Disabilities, 311 and NYC Parks - have all backed the initiative, showing off the Club and City's iconic blue, white and orange colors.
City employees have mobilized to support their Club, taking to the streets proudly wearing Club scarves as MLS playoffs kickoff. To spread the message even further, they've taken photos and posted on social media with #SupportYourCity.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio kicked off the official campaign at a Monday evening event, expressing pride in the team's contributions to the City and his excitement for playoffs.
"In only two years, New York City FC has quickly established a loyal and passionate following, carrying on the New York City tradition of sporting achievement. The team has already reached an historic milestone this year by earning its first playoff berth. This campaign will unite New Yorkers to support their Club before this first postseason game and beyond."
New York City FC President Jon Patricof said:
"We are grateful for all the support we've received from Mayor de Blasio and the people who make this great city run. Leading into playoffs, we also want to thank our incredible fans who continue to lift us to new heights. We are proud to represent the five boroughs every time we take the field. This is why it's so meaningful to see New Yorkers wearing our colors on the City streets as we enter such an important phase."
New York City FC will host their first-ever postseason game on Sunday, November 6 at Yankee Stadium, looking to extend their eight-game unbeaten streak at home.
