Princeton WhistlePigs News Release
The Princeton Rays have announced the formation of a "P-Rays Radio Network" featuring all 68 of their games in 2008, both home and away, being broadcast by radio and stretching over nine counties.
Game action will be originally generated on radio via "The River," 102.3 FM of nearby Beckley, who will be broadcasting all 68 games over their FM signal. They will be joined on the network by long-time P-Rays' radio affiliate, WAEY-AM1490 of Princeton, who in addition will once again carry the road games only. For listeners around the world, all P-Rays' games in 2008, both home and away, will be available at no charge on the internet by visiting the team's website at www.princetondevilrays.com.
"We are very excited about this new dimension to our operation. We are a regional team and this will be a great way to keep people in our surrounding counties fully in touch with the happenings of P-Rays baseball," commented P-Rays' General Manager Jim Holland upon announcing the move.
This year there will also be a new voice behind the P-Rays' radio microphone in the team's play-by-play announcer role in the form of Kyle Cooper. Kyle relocated to the southern West Virginia area a year ago and has worked for both ESPN-1050AM in Mercer County and "The River" since relocating here. He also has a long history of sports broadcasting credits from his years of working in his native Wisconsin. He has also travelled to several of the P-Rays' "Little League Caravan" appearances this spring to start getting acquainted with many of the area's professional baseball fans.
Those wanting to check out the P-Rays action over the airwaves or the internet for the first time in 2008 can do so by tuning in for the team's Appalachian League season opener at Hunnicutt Field on June 17 versus the league's newest entry, the Pulaski Mariners.
