
New Orleans' Wimprine, Philadelphia's Moten, and Tampa Bay's Samuels Earn Week 9 Honors

NEW YORK - New Orleans VooDoo QB DANNY WIMPRINE, Philadelphia Soul DB EDDIE MOTEN, and Tampa Bay Storm WR/LB LAWRENCE SAMUELS have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 9 of the 2008 season.
OFFENSIVE: Wimprine (6-3, 236, Memphis) completed 22-of-33 passes for 265 yards and a Week 9-high nine touchdowns as the VooDoo (7-2) defeated the Utah Blaze (0-9), 70-56, on Friday. Wimprine led New Orleans on scoring drives during 10 of the teams 11 total possessions, including nine consecutive. His passer rating of 130.7 led all quarterbacks in Week 9. The VooDoo travel to The Arena at Gwinnett Center to face Mitsubishi Motors Southern Division rival Georgia (3-5) on Saturday, May 3 at 7 p.m. ET (AFL NET, Cox Sports TV Local - Live, CSS - Live).
ADT DEFENSIVE: Moten (5-10, 185, Texas A&M Kingsville) registered a game-high 9.5 tackles along with a Week 9-high three interceptions as the Philadelphia Soul (9-0) defeated the Dallas Desperados (7-1), 57-28, at the Wachovia Spectrum Monday night in a game between two unbeaten teams. During the fifth play of Dallas' first possession of the second quarter, Moten made a touchdown-saving tackle on Desperados WR/DB WILL PETTIS at the Soul one-yard line. On the next play, Moten intercepted Dallas QB CLINT DOLEZEL in the end zone for a touchback. On the Desperados' second possession of the third quarter, Moten intercepted Dolezel again on Philadelphia's one-yard line, ending the Desperados scoring drive and keeping the Soul's lead at 23 points. With 6:18 remaining in the game, Moten corralled his third interception off Dolezel at Philadelphia's seven-yard line with his momentum carrying him into the end zone for a touchback. The Soul's defense held Dallas to under 30 points for the first time since May 1, 2004, and only the second time in team history. Philadelphia travels to Quicken Loans Arena to face Mitsubishi Motors Eastern Division rival Cleveland (4-4) on Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m. ET.
IRONMAN: Samuels (6-3, 220, Livingston) recorded a team-high five receptions for 45 yards and accounted for touchdowns on both offense and defense as the Tampa Bay Storm (3-5) defeated the Orlando Predators (6-3), 48-41, on Saturday at Amway Arena. Samuels registered the Storm's first offensive score on a six-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter to tie the game at seven. On the second play of the fourth quarter, Samuels intercepted Orlando QB SHANE STAFFORD and returned the interception eight yards for the game's second defensive touchdown, giving Tampa Bay a 17-point lead it would not relinquish. Tampa Bay hosts the Chicago Rush (7-2) on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday, May 5 at 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2 HD, ESPN360.com).

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Grand Rapids LB Michael McFadden, New Orleans DB Norman LeJeune and DB Keon Raymond, New York FB/LB Idris Price and DB Billy Parker, San Jose DB Omarr Smith and DB Clevan Thomas and Tampa Bay DB Traco Rachal.
Ironman of the Week candidates included: Grand Rapids WR Chris Johnson, Philadelphia FB/LB Clifton Smith and Tampa Bay FB/LB Torrance Marshall.
