NEW YORK - New England Revolution forward Adam Buksa has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 32 of the 2021 MLS season.
Buksa came off the substitutes' bench and scored both Revolution goals, as they overcame a two-goal deficit to claim a 2-2 draw with Orlando City SC at Exploria Stadium on Sunday evening, extending the club's undefeated run to nine games.
On Saturday, the Revolution had clinched the Supporters' Shield, emblematic of the best regular season record in 2021, then on Sunday in Orlando, Buksa entered the match to start the second half.
With the score 2-0, Buksa drew the Revolution within a goal in the 81st minute, racing into the penalty area to stab home a ball curled into the box by Gustavo Bou.
Then three minutes into stoppage time, Buksa rose up at the penalty spot to powerfully head home a cross from the left by DeJuan Jones for the equalizer, a strike which also included Carles Gil's league-leading 18th assist of the season.
The brace gave the Polish international 16 goals for the season, now just one behind D.C. United's Ola Kamara for the lead in the race for the MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi. It was his third multiple-goal game of the MLS season (also one off the league lead).
Buksa and the Revolution return to action on Wednesday evening, Oct. 27, when they play host to the Colorado Rapids, tied for No. 2 in the Western Conference, at Gillette Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET; ESPN+). With a victory, the Revolution will set an all-time MLS record for the most standings points over the course of a single season.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
