Washington Valor News Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Arena Football League announced today that Washington Valor quarterback Arvell Nelson has been named Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Baltimore Brigade in Week 12.
Nelson threw for 271 yards and five touchdowns to go along with 24 rushing yards and a pair of rushing scores, leading Washington to a 47-40, playoff-clinching win over Baltimore. Nelson's seven-touchdown performance marked the seventh time since joining the Valor that he registered 3+ passing touchdowns and 2+ rushing touchdowns in the same game. It was the third time this season Nelson has hit those marks.
Nelson, playing in his seventh AFL season and second with the Valor, leads the league in rushing yards (199) and ranks second in passing yards (2,738).
The Valor close out their regular season this Saturday, July 20, hosting the Columbus Destroyers at 3:30 p.m. at Capital One Arena. Washington won the teams' only prior meeting this season, 29-27, in Week 5. Saturday afternoon's game will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Washington and ESPN3.
