NECBL Proud to Host U.S. Military All-Stars
June 14, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release
The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) is proud to once again host a barnstorming tour of the U.S. Military All-Stars. The All-Stars come through the New England League in mid and late June.
This is the second consecutive season where the NECBL has hosted the All-Stars. In their game at New Bedford last summer, the All-Stars started New England sports legend Doug Flutie at second base. Their opponents, the New Bedford Bay Sox countered with their own Hub "A" lister by starting long time Red Sox lefty Bill Lee. The exhibition game raised money to support our troops.
Five NECBL teams will play host to the All-Stars. The All-Stars will play:
Monday June 17th at the Vermont Mountaineers
Wednesday, June 19th at the New Bedford Bay Sox
Saturday June 22nd at the Plymouth Pilgrims
Monday June 24th at the Holyoke Blue Sox
Wednesday June 26th at the Mystic Schooners
Tickets are available on the five home teams' websites.
The U.S. Military All-Stars were established in Pensacola, Florida at the request of President George H. W. Bush in 1990. They have played in 45 states and 12 countries.
"Thousands of men and women serving on Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, Wounded Warriors, Amputees and Veterans have suited up alongside MLB Alumni like Jeff Kent, Bob Feller, Tommy John, Wade Boggs and many, many more," said General Manager Karl Seiter "Professional athletes like NFL Quarterback Doug Flutie and celebrities like 'Larry the Cable Guy' have joined proud Americans all across the country by wearing our unique camouflage uniform. Our bright yellow ribbon is crafted in the shape of an "S" to signify 'SUPPORT for our Troops.'
"Although our program has won more than 70% of our games, each player fully understands our responsibility far exceeds games won or lost. We represent everyone who has ever worn a uniform in service to our country. The majority of our players have served overseas or will deploy soon," Seiter concluded.
