Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC has signed defender Nathan Dossantos to a one-year contract with a club option for 2023. The deal is pending USL and U.S. Soccer Federation approval.
Dossantos, 22, was an NCAA champion at Marshall and the second-round pick (46th overall) of Orlando City SC in this year's MLS SuperDraft. He began preseason this January in camp with Orlando but went unsigned.
"Nate is a player who can play multiple positions, reads the game well and is comfortable on the ball," Riverhounds head coach Bob Lilley said. "We are confident he will adapt quickly to our style of play and look forward to working with him here in Pittsburgh for the 2022 USL Championship season."
Dossantos is another player making a return to Pittsburgh, as the Oakville, Ontario native began his college career at Duquesne, where he played two seasons before transferring to Marshall.
With the Thundering Herd, Dossantos played every minute of Marshall's stunning NCAA championship run in which the unseeded team knocked out No. 1 Clemson on penalties before winning the title with three straight 1-0 wins over No. 8 Georgetown, North Carolina and No. 3 Indiana. He was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team, which capped a season in which Marshall allowed only eight goals in 18 total matches.
Dossantos was a two-time All-Conference USA First Team selection with Marshall, which went 24-6-6 overall in his two seasons, and he was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year after his 2021 senior season.
The Riverhounds now have 17 players announced under contract for the 2022 season as preparations continue for the March 12 season opener at Memphis 901 FC. The team's next preseason match is tomorrow at 1 p.m., when they will travel to face their second college opponent of the preseason, Pitt.
