Cape Breton Highlanders

Three big wins this week for the Cape Breton Highlanders, have guided the Sydney Crew to second place in the standings, only 1½ games away from the lead. With 26.0 ppg and 8.7 rpg, Bruce Massey led the Highlanders in points and rebounds. Kenny Jones added 18.0 ppg in the three Cape Breton wins.

Halifax Hurricanes

The Hurricanes broke their losing streak on Sunday with a 108- 100 home win against St. john's, taking one win in three contests this week. Mike Poole stood strong in scoring for Halifax with 24.3 ppg, with Jordan Washington adding 18.3 ppg this week. Gabe Freeman added a double-double this week with 11.3 rebounds and 10.7 points per game.

Island Storm

The Island Storm's struggles continued this week, with a 116-102 loss to the standings-leading Moncton Magic. In the loss, the NBL's leading scorer, Sampson Carter, put 33 points on the scoreboard, while Kareem Canty (14 pts), Russell Byrd (14 pts) and Tyree White (13 pts) also scored in double figures for the Charlottetown crew. Alex Campbell was the top rebounder with 13 boards.

KW Titans

In their only game this week, the Titans blasted through a 132- 114 victory over the Sudbury Five on Saturday evening. Ed Horton's 30 points, and a 14-point, 16-rebound game from Derek Hall, helped KW move closer to the top of the NBL standings.

London Lightning

London split their two games this week, including a 105-103 win over Sudbury on Sunday afternoon. Garrett Williamson is feeling his strength with 22.0 ppg, followed by 14 from Maurice Bolden and 13 from AJ Gaines. Marvell Waithe cleared the backboards for the Bolts, averaging 9.0 rebounds.

Moncton Magic

Head Coach: Joe Salerno Home arena: Centre Avenir

After starting the season with a 10-0 mark, the Magic lost three of their last four contests, including two of three this week. Despite the loss of Doug Herring Jr., the Magic still had plenty of scoring from 24.3 ppg from Corey Allmond - Allmond also hit 25 of 50 3-pointers. Wayne McCullough and Nick Evans were kings of the backboard, yanking down 9.0 rpg this week.

Saint John Riptide

The Riptide split their two matches this week, as NBL Canada draft picks Brent Arrington and Chris Early averaged 17.0 ppg to lead their team. Early was also the top rebounder, with 8.0 rebounds per game, while Arrington added 6.5 assists per game this week.

St. John's Edge

Head Coach: Doug Plumb Home Arena: Mile One Stadium

Desmond Lee's 23.0 ppg and Glen Davis' 16.5 ppg efforts helped the Edge split their two games this week, staying in the upper half of the NBL's standings. Obinna Oleka nearly averaged a double-double this week, with 15.0 rebounds and 9.5 points in two matches.

Sudbury Five

After dominating the standings to start the season, the Sudbury Five lost their two games this week, finishing with an 8-8 record. Despite the two losses, Braylon Rayson finished the week with a 33.0 ppg average, followed by a 21.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg run for Cory Dixon.

Windsor Express

A big win for the Windsor Express over London, 108-100 on Friday night. The victory was punctuated by Chris Jones, who came off the bench to score 29 points. Juan Pattillo hit a double- double of 10 rebounds and 12 points.

NBL CANADA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Bruce Massey of the Cape Breton Highlanders has been named Player of the Week for the week ending December 30, 2018. This is the second time this week that Massey has earned this honour.

Massey, a 6'3" guard who played collegiately at Middle Tennessee State, averaged 26.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in three Cape Breton victories, helping the Highlanders move to within 1 1/2 games of the NBL division lead.

"Like our team feels," said Highlanders president Tyrone Levingston, "being in first place is not the ultimate goal, our goals are getting into the finals. The guys are working extremely hard, they're trusting each other and Bruce is the captain of the team, and the team is trusting in Bruce. They're all elevating in the faith that they have in each other."

NBL CANADA CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Garrett Williamson of the London Lightning has been named Canadian Player of the Week for the week ending December 30, 2018.

Williamson, a 6'5" guard who played collegiately at St. Joseph's (Pennsylvania), averaged 22.0 points per game in two London contests.

"It's a well-deserved honour for him," said Lightning head coach Elliott Ethington, "Garrett carries himself well both on and off the court. He attacked the rim with reckless abandon this week, and it's a consistent effort to do the best he possibly can and to not settle. He's turning into an all-around player for us out there, and he's a big contributor in the games this week."
