RECORD 103 FORMER NBA D-LEAGUE PLAYERS HIGHLIGHT NBA END-OF-SEASON ROSTERS
A record-high 103 players with NBA Development League experience, representing 23 percent of all NBA players, were featured on NBA end-of-season rosters as the 2010-11 regular season concluded on Wednesday, April 13. For the first time ever, all 30 NBA teams featured a player with NBA D-League experience. Of the 103 former NBA D-League players on NBA rosters, 50 played in the NBA D-League this season, the league's 10th. The NBA D-League saw record highs this year in individual NBA players assigned to their affiliates (39), total NBA player assignments (56) and NBA teams assigning a player (25), and also had 20 players receive 27 GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA. Among the NBA D-League alumni who excelled in the NBA this season are Cleveland's Ramon Sessions, Golden State's Dorell Wright, Phoenix's Aaron Brooks and Marcin Gortat, Utah's C.J. Miles and Washington's Andray Blatche.
RIO GRANDE VALLEY'S JEFF ADRIEN WINS NBA D-LEAGUE IMPACT PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Rio Grande Valley Vipers forward Jeff Adrien, currently of the Golden State Warriors, was named the NBA Development League's Impact Player of the Year, as voted on by the NBA D-League's 16 head coaches. Given to a player who joins an NBA D-League team after Dec. 1, the Impact Player of the Year award honors an athlete who made the greatest contribution following his in-season acquisition. In 22 games with the Vipers, Adrien averaged 19.9 points and 12.2 rebounds, shooting 55 percent from the field. He led Rio Grande Valley to an 18-4 record before earning a GATORADE Call-Up, signing with the Warriors for the rest of the NBA season. Adrien, a 6-7, 245-pound forward out of Connecticut, played 15 games with Golden State to start the season, and played his first five NBA D-League games with the Erie BayHawks in December. Adrien joined the Vipers on Dec. 30 in a trade with Erie that sent Garrett Temple, now with the Charlotte Bobcats, to the BayHawks.
TULSA'S LARRY OWENS WINS JASON COLLIER SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
Tulsa 66ers forward Larry Owens, currently with the Washington Wizards, is the recipient of the 2010-11 Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award as voted on by the 16 NBA Development League head coaches. The award honors the player who best represents the ideals of character and conduct on and off the court. Owens' hard work paid off this season in the form of two GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA. The Wizards called up Owens on April 6, and in five games with Washington, the 6-7, 210-pound forward out of Oral Roberts has averaged 6.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 22.4 minutes. The San Antonio Spurs also summoned Owens in January, and Owens averaged 1.3 points in 4.4 minutes over seven games with the Spurs. In 43 games (42 starts) this season with Tulsa, Owens averaged 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists, leading the 66ers to a 33-17 record and a berth in the NBA D-League Playoffs.
