MASCOT MYSTERIES: Will the "Cone" from Dairy Queen take a lickin' and keep on pickin'? Can McGruff the Crime Dog solve the mystery of a trapping defense? Students from 19 Albuquerque area schools will learn those answers during mascot basketball at halftime of today's D-League game between Arkansas and the Thunderbirds at Tingley Coliseum in a combined School Days/Business Persons special. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. MT.
EXPECT SOME POINTS to be scored today between the Thunderbirds and the RimRockers. In the first two meetings the two teams are shooting a combined 52-percent from the floor (163-313) and have combined to average 115.5 points.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST? Ira Harge may be pulled in different directions when Arkansas visits Albuquerque today. The father of RimRockers coach Joe Harge , Ira also serves as the Thunderbirds' Mentor in the NBA D-League Player Development Programs. The elder Harge, who resides in Albuquerque, played 427 games in the old ABA, finishing his career just prior to the merger with the NBA.

CHANGING LOGOS: The only change for Dwayne Jones will be the NBA logo patch sewn on his Florida Flame jersey. Jones, who had been on assignment from the Minnesota Timberwolves, was traded from the Wolves to the Boston Celtics last week. The Celtics will leave Jones with the Flame.
ASSIGNMENT LEADERS: Of the 18 players assigned to the D-League from NBA teams, 10 are still active on D-League rosters. Leaders among those 10 include Donta Smith (Hawks-Arkansas) in minutes played at 33.1 pg, Rawle Marshall (Mavericks-Fort Worth) in scoring at 17.2 pg and Dwayne Jones (Celtics-Florida) in rebounding at 11.1.
