North Shore Navigators News Release
LYNN, Mass. - The North Shore Navigators returned to the New England region's Division 1 ranks to add two new players to their Futures Collegiate Baseball League roster for the upcoming summer.
University of Maine right-handed pitcher Colton Carson and infielder Jake Rainess will join the North Shore club in 2020. The two Black Bear freshmen were introduced by President and General Manager Derek January on Monday.
Carson joins a long line of recent Black Bear pitchers hailing from Maine as the 6-foot-6, 200-pound righty is a Paris native. The reigning Varsity Maine Athlete of the Year pitched a playoff no-hitter to punctuate a 7-0 senior season at Oxford Hills after he won Class A North Player of the Year as a quarterback and safety in football and also played a key role on the basketball court. He was also a three-time Maine All-State First Team honoree and finalist for both the 2019 Gatorade Player of the Year and Mr. Baseball honors in the state.
Scouting Report: big, hard-throwing RHP with three pitches ... very good feel for the strike zone ... lots of room for growth ... MLB comp: Kyle Farnsworth.
Rainess will be another addition to North Shore's stable of infielders after he makes his collegiate debut this spring. The 6-foot, 175-pounder from Baltimore was a two-time Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association All-Conference player and two-time Athletic Award recipient at Friends School. He also played in the President's Cup All-Star Game at Camden Yards before moving to Maine for a postgraduate year at Bridgton Academy. Last summer, Rainess helped Putty Hill win the Maryland Collegiate League championship.
Scouting Report: wiry infielder ... very good defensive skills and speed ... should make an immediate impact as a freshman ... MLB comp: Tommy Edman.
