Tacoma Navigators News Release

Tacoma, WA. The ABA Tacoma Navigators professional basketball team mounted a balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures and three posting individual "double-doubles" to hold off the hard-charging Bellingham Slam last night at Mt. Tahoma High School. The final was 95-91. Tacoma power forward Dontay Harris led the way with his trademark all-around play, socring 16 points and claiming 15 rebounds while star guard Tim Ellis added 19 points and 11 rebounds. Although Ellis' output was nearly 14 pionts off his season average, it was the 15th time in his ABA career that he's led his team in scoring. Defensive specialist Rashaad Powell chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and guards Jamal Miller and Jim Rainwater combined for ten three-pointers (Miller 6) totaling 18 and 17 points respectively.;

Bellingham was led by 2004-2005 ABA All-Star and former Harlem Globetrotter power forward, Eric Sandrin, who claimed game-high scoring honors with 21 points and 12 rebounds, and practically defied gravity on three spectacular blocked shots. The Slam backcourt duo of Brandon Hartley and Caleb Gervin tallied 20 and 18 points respectively, and swingman Michael Parker added 11. Bellingham played tough defense all night, forcing five 3-D opportunities and converting on three.

Tacoma extended its win streak to two after Friday's win over the Bellevue Blackhawks and pushed its overall record to 7-3 to move back into a tie with the San Jose Skyrockets for the lead in the division, while Bellingham's season record evened at 6-6. The Slam head south of the borner to play the Tijuana Dragons on Thursday night while Tacoma hosts Beijing (Aoshen Olympian) Thursday and Friday nights at Mt. Tahoma High School.
