Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Brian Navarreto's tenth inning walk-off home run gave the Fort Myers Miracle (13-13) a 2-1 win over the Daytona Tortugas (13-13) on Tuesday night. The solo shot broke the 1-1 tie making the Miracle winners of three straight.
RHP Cody Stashak had his good stuff going all night long and pitched to a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning. The Miracle used a run early in the first to get out in front. Zack Granite sped around the bases with a single and stolen base followed two batter later by a passed by from starter RHP Jose Lopez. Granite came home to score the first run of the game.
While Stashak fanned a season-high seven batters for the third time on five starts, Lopez settled in and did not allow another run, keeping the game close for Daytona. In the top of the sixth, three straight singles loaded the bases for Reydel Medina. With one out, Medina lifted a ball deep enough to centerfield to merit a sacrifice fly, scoring Blake Butler.
Once the starters left the game after six innings apiece, both relief cores held down the fort for each side. Michael Theofanopoulos pitched a season-high three scoreless innings followed by a 1-2-3 top of the tenth from Jonny Drozd (W, 1-0).
Juan Martinez delivered two scoreless frames for the Tortugas, and Tanner Rainey's (L, 0-1) clean ninth sent the game to extras. After retiring the first two batter of the tenth, Rainey sent a 1-1 fastball to Navarreto. The Miracle catcher tattooed the pitch that seemed to be hooking for the foul pole in left but straightened out to end the game.
Fort Myers looks to win the four-game series up 2-0 on Wednesday night. RHP David Fischer brings his 0.95 ERA to the mound for the Miracle to oppose RHP Vladimir Gutierrez. First pitch on a Women's WINsday is 6:35 PM ET.
