Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - A seven-run seventh inning for the Corpus Christi Hooks was too much for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to overcome, falling in the series opener at Whataburger Field, 8-3.
The Naturals and Hooks traded scoreless innings across the first three innings, then the Hooks struck for a run in the fourth, allowed by reliever Zach Haake but charged to starter Dante Biasi. After Biasi threw 3.2 innings, Haake followed with 2.1 innings scoreless, as the game remained 1-0 into the seventh inning.
Corpus Christi sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning, six runs charged to Will Klein and one to Jonah Dipoto, who went on to throw a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
All three Northwest Arkansas runs were scored on a two-out rally in the eighth inning. After shortstop Morgan McCullough singled with one out and advanced to second, left fielder Tucker Bradley doubled him in, then scored alongside Nick Loftin on a two-run single off the bat of Robbie Glendinning.
Bradley finished the night 2-for-5, the only multi-hit game for a Naturals hitter, while Loftin went 1-for-3 with a walk in his return to his hometown of Corpus Christi.
The Naturals put a pair of runners on with two outs in the ninth but could not bring a run across, dropping the first game of the series, 8-3.
Northwest Arkansas returns to action Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. from Whataburger Field.
