Published on July 27, 2010 under Texas League (TL1) News Release
Tulsa, OK - The Naturals came from behind and looked like they were closing in on victory. However the Drillers came back in the ninth and defeated the Naturals 7-6 Tuesday night. The win puts Tulsa just a half game behind the Naturals for first place in the North Division.
The Naturals (19-11, 62-38) plated the game's first run in the top of the first. Johnny Giavotella reached base with a one out double. With two outs, Paulo Orlando lined a double into right field, which brought Giavotella home to score.
Tulsa (19-12, 47-53) came right back in the bottom of the first, and took the lead. Anthony Jackson led the game off with a ground rule double. Wilin Rosario brought Jackson home with a base hit to left field. Jason Van Kooten then cleared the bases with a two run homer. The home run put the Drillers up 3-1.
After the Drillers added another run in the third, the Naturals began their comeback in the fifth inning. With Tim Smith on second, Anthony Seratelli hit a home run over the left field wall. The two run homer was Seratelli's third of the season, and it cut the deficit to just a run.
Up just one, Tulsa's offense extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh. Jeff Kindel led the inning off with a double to right. Warren Schaeffer brought Kindel home with a double to left. The run put the Drillers up by two runs.
The Naturals rallied in the top of the eighth to take the lead. Derrick Robinson reached base hit a one out single. Giavotella also singled, and the Naturals had tow men on base. Eric Hosmer then put the Naturals out front with a three run bomb. The home run was Hosmer's sixth with the Naturals, and it put the Naturals ahead 6-5 heading into the ninth.
The Naturals were three outs away from a victory, however the Drillers had other plans. Tulsa loaded the bases with one out after Charles Blackmon singled. Rosario singled to left, and brought home the tying run with just one out. With two outs, Bronson Sardinha came into pinch hit for Tulsa. He only had to swing the bat once, as he was issued a five-pitch walk that brought home the winning run. The Drillers came away with the 7-6 win.
Henry Barrera (1-1) suffered the loss for the Naturals. Barrera pitched two innings, gave up two runs with one being earned, and struck out two. Edgar Osuna started the game for the Naturals. He pitched six and tow thirds, gave up five earned runs, and struck out three for a no decision.
Chris Malone (3-3) picked up the win. Malone pitched an inning and a third, walked two, and struck out one. Starter Brandon Durden gave up four earned runs over seven and one third innings.
These two teams will continue their series Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m., and you can listen live on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.
