Potomac Nationals News Release

John Patterson Coming Back This Weekend!

Second rehab start for Patterson slated for busy night

The Washington Nationals announced Tuesday that pitcher John Patterson will make another rehab start with Potomac on Saturday night when the team takes on Frederick at 7:05 p.m.

Patterson, who received the loss in his only other Pfitzner Stadium appearance this season, signed autographs for thirty minutes after he was taken out of the game due to a preset pitch count. Patterson will hit the mound again at Pfitzner Stadium on Saturday after discussing his situation with Washington Nationals Manager Frank Robinson and General Manager Jim Bowden.

"Things are going well right now. As much I would like to pitch against the Yankees, one more start [in Potomac] is probably the smart play," Patterson said. "You get in a situation where you [might] put some stress in the bullpen. That's something I don't want to do. I don't want to hurt the team in any way. As comfortable as I'm feeling right now, the smart thing to do is have one more rehab start. When I come back, I can go 100 pitches and help this ballclub."

The righty last pitched on April 21 in a game against Atlanta then went on the disabled list with a right forearm strain. He is expected to throw six innings or 90 pitches.

Following Saturday's game, Dale City Volunteer Fire Department and Classic Rock 94.7 present a fantastic fireworks show provided by Fire in the Sky Pyrotechnics. Tickets for this game are available through the Potomac Nationals ticket office by calling (703) 590-2311 or visiting www.potomacnationals.com.

P-Nats Have Two Selected to All-Star Team

Trey Webb and Brandon Powell to represent P-Nats for Carolina League

Trey Webb and Brandon Powell have been selected to represent the Potomac Nationals and the Carolina League in the HCA Virginia 2006 Carolina/California League All-Star Game presented by Lewis-Gale Medical Center on June 27 in Salem, Va. Both players will be used as utility infielders for the Carolina League.

The annual contest puts the best of the Carolina and California Leagues against each other with this year's game being played at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, home of the Salem Avalanche.

Webb, a second baseman, is hitting .295 in 57 games played coming into Wednesday's action. He has three home runs and 28 RBI while leading the team in doubles (18), triples (3) and stolen bases (15). He is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 29. The native of Dallas, Texas was selected in the fifth round of the 2003 First Year Player Draft out of Baylor University.

Powell, a third baseman in his first season with the Nationals organization, is hitting .269 while leading the Nationals in home runs with eight, including two against Frederick last Sunday. He is third on the team in RBI with 28. Powell has played in 55 of the 65 P-Nats games this season. Wimbledon at 'The Pfitz'?

Toss your way to winning from the stands

Yes it's a grass field just like England, but no the net is not coming off of the backstop. This Saturday night, the P-Nats are excited to introduce the P-Nats Tennis Ball Toss. This new promotion will give fans a chance to win great prizes after the game is over.

Saturday night, after the last out, but before the fireworks begin; various targets will be set up on the field. Fans can purchase one tennis ball for a dollar, or five for three dollars to throw at these targets. Each tennis ball will have a number on it so the winning fan is sure to collect their prize.

Fans must purchase the tennis balls at the Ft. Belvoir Federal Credit Union Fan Assistance Booth. This is a great opportunity for kids and parents alike to test their aim and arm strength. All at once, fans will be directed to throw their balls onto the field from anywhere outside of the playing field. Once all the balls have been thrown, winning numbers will be revealed and prizes will be given out.

What They're Sayin'

Fans speak out about the P-Nats!

Every now and then, fans come to us with ideas or suggestions about how to make the experience better and believe us we listen. The Nationals are working on hard to make the fan experience better today than it was yesterday as part of our FUN program.

It's when the team is on the road that our fans are won and become life-long followers of the P-Nats. This is one such case in which a fan took his family to a game away from Pfitzner Stadium, and came home feeling the red, white and blue.

"My family and I attended the Nationals' game against the Frederick Keys [on Sunday]. We just wanted to say thanks to one of your players, Ender Chavez. He gave balls to both my [3 year old] son and my [6 year old] daughter and it made their day. Good luck to Mr. Chavez and the rest of the team in their playoff run. I suspect Mr. Chavez has two new fans for life--actually four - my wife and I will be rooting for him too." -- Peter Condron

If you have experienced something like this at a P-Nats game, either at 'The Pfitz' or with the team on the road, we want to know about it. Did you see Uncle Slam at an event recently? Did your group come out to a game and have a great time? Did you have fun during a rain delay? Tell us about it. We want to know so we can make your experience with the Potomac Nationals the best it can be.
