National Basketball League of Canada & Halifax Rainmen to Honour Konchalski

(Halifax, NS) On Thursday, February 23 the Halifax Rainmen will be celebrating StFX Night as they honour St. Francis Xavier Head Coach, Steve Konchalski, on behalf of the National Basketball League of Canada.

Konchalski will be receiving an award of recognition for his outstanding 800 career victories as head coach of the StFX X-Men. His 800th victory was captured on January 7, 2012. The award will be presented shortly before the Rainmen's 7:00 p.m. tip-off against the Quebec Kebs.

"What Coach K has achieved at StFX is remarkable," said Andre Levingston, President & CEO of the Halifax Rainmen and President of NBL Canada. "The man is truly a legend in the Canadian basketball circuit. We look forward to honouring his hard work and dedication to the sport, and the outstanding achievements he's accomplished."

As the winningest coach in Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's basketball history, Konchalski spent five years coaching Rainmen rookie, Christian "T-Bear" Upshaw.

"Coach Konchalski is definitely a player's coach," said Upshaw. "He's a great individual teacher. I very much enjoyed my time with him at StFX and look forward to sharing in the excitement when we present this award to him on Thursday."

A section of the Metro Centre will be blocked off for StFX alumni and students, where together they will have the opportunity to share in the excitement of Coach Konchalski's award and cheer on their former StFX
