From the Notes

Opening Day History: Heading into year number 42, the Sounds are 19-22 all-time on Opening Day. In season openers at home, the Sounds are 25-16. The last time Nashville opened its season at home was in 2016 when they were blanked by Oklahoma City, 5-0, on April 4.

Opening Day vs. Iowa: The Sounds have played Iowa four times on Opening Day and are 3-1 in those games. The first Nashville opened its season against Iowa was on April 8, 1993 when they topped the Cubs, 8-5. On April 7, 1998, Iowa won a 7-2 game. The Sounds edged out a 5-4 win against Iowa on April 3, 2003 and then beat Iowa, 6-3, the last time they opened a season against each other on April 8, 2010.

Tennessee-Texas Two-Step: A new era of baseball begins tonight as the Sounds play their first official game as the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The two clubs held a joint press conference at First Tennessee Park on September 20, 2018 to announce the four-year Player Development Contract. Several notable former Sounds also played for the Rangers at one point in their career, including Prince Fielder, Nelson Cruz, Yovani Gallardo, Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress.

What a Day for Davidson: Matt Davidson etched his name into the Major League Baseball history book last year when he hit three home runs for the Chicago White Sox on Opening Day. In a 14-7 win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, Davidson hit a solo blast in the 4th inning, another solo shot in the 5th inning and finished his historic day with a 3-run homer in the 8th. Davidson joined the Tigers' Dmitri Young (2005 vs. Kansas City), the Cubs' Tuffy Rhodes (1994 vs. New York-NL) and the Blue Jays' George Bell (1988 vs. Kansas City) as the only Major Leaguers to hit three home runs on Opening Day.

In the Pipeline: Four current Sounds are listed among MLB Pipeline's Top 30 Texas Rangers prospects. Leading the group at #11 is left-handed pitcher Taylor Hearn. Left-handed reliever CD Pelham checks in at #15, infielder Eli White follows at #16 and catcher Jose Trevino is the 25th-ranked prospect in the system.

Jason Wood at the Helm: Jason Wood was named the 29th manager in Nashville Sounds franchise history on January 8, 2019. The California native is managing the Rangers' Triple-A team for the fifth consecutive season and has a career managerial mark of 582-536. As part of an 18-year professional playing career, Wood played for the Sounds in 2000 and 2001 and is now the second former Sounds player to return and manage the club (Marty Brown, a player in 1988-89, a manager in 2001-02).

The AAA @nashvillesounds open their season today, and fan favorite @DimTillard will be in uniform. I took him to play bingo, expecting zaniness. Instead, I got a glimpse into one of the most unique and sincere personalities in the game: https://theathletic.com/895146/2019/04/04/fire-jokes-and-bingo-how-tim-dillard-became-one-of-baseballs-most-distinctive-characters/
