Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville Soccer Club will travel to New Jersey this weekend to take on the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. CT at Red Bull Arena.
Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith and midfielder Sean Davis, who was formerly with the New York Red Bulls, addressed the media on Thursday. Smith provided an update on reigning MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar's status, and what to expect from a Red Bull side, specifically Lewis Morgan.
Davis, who was the first homegrown player to captain the Red Bulls, discussed his return to Red Bull Arena for the first time since joining Nashville SC via free agency in Jan. 2022. During his time in New York, he led the Red Bulls to two Supporters' Shields, first during his rookie season in 2015 and second in 2018.
Last week Nashville SC opened a season at GEODIS Park for the first time in club history while debuting its coveted 'Man in Black' kit. The team earned a 2-0 victory over New York City FC with goals from Walker Zimmerman and Jacob Shaffelburg. Nashville SC will be sporting the 'Man in Black' Kit again this weekend against the Red Bulls, marking the first time in club history Nashville has not worn gold in its first two matches of a season.
Reigning Landon Donovan MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar is coming off a match to remember to open the 2023 campaign. Mukhtar entered the contest in the 75th minute with MVP chants booming throughout GEODIS Park. Five minutes later he took possession and drew four NYCFC defenders towards him before setting up Shaffelburg to score and secure the win. With the assist, Mukhtar has been involved in 71 of Nashville SC's 133 MLS goals in club history.
Saturday will mark Nashville SC's fourth trip to Red Bull Arena in club history. Nashville faced CF Montréal in the 2020 season due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and then both New York Red Bulls and New York City FC each in the 2021 season.
