Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - On Thursday morning, Nashville Soccer Club traded midfielder Ramone Howell to Phoenix Rising FC of the USL Championship. Howell has been a member of Nashville SC since its inaugural 2018 USL Championship season, making three league appearances and two U.S. Open Cup appearances in his two seasons.
The move opens up an international spot for Nashville SC for its 2019 USL Championship season.
Howell made his first official USL Championship appearance for Nashville SC in the final match of the 2018 regular season, coming on as an impact substitute in a 3-3 draw with FC Cincinnati that clinched Nashville a USL Cup Playoff spot. His only shot in that match led to Nashville's equalizing goal in the 90' minute.
In Nashville's preseason match against defending USL Cup champion Louisville City FC this season, Howell played a pinpoint cross to the feet of Alan Winn for the match-winning strike earning an unofficial assist.
The 24-year-old Jamaican joins Phoenix Rising FC which currently sits in second in the USL Championship Western Conference and is riding a four-match winning streak. Phoenix was the runner up in the USL Championship last season, falling to Louisville in the USL Cup Final. Howell could get his first chance to play for Phoenix on Saturday when Rising FC take on Orange County SC.
Nashville SC returns to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hartford Athletic. There will be a a Club and Country doubleheader watch party free for all fans at Corner Pub in downtown Nashville featuring the U.S. Women's National Team and Nashville SC. The U.S. plays Chile at 11 a.m. and will be followed by the NSC match. Food and drink specials and giveaways will be available to fans.
