(Nashua, NH) The Nashua Pride of the Atlantic (IND) League have announced the signing of veteran free agent shortstop Orlando Miller.
The 36-year-old Miller split the 2004 season between the Mexican League and the Atlantic City Surf of the Atlantic League. With the Surf, Miller played in 28 games, batting .252 with five home runs and 21 RBI.
The native of Changuinola, Panama has 297 Major League games to his credit with the Houston Astros and the Detroit Tigers. His best M.L season was in 1996 when he played in 139 games for Houston, batting .256 with 15 HR's and 58 RBI.
Miller has appeared in 982 minor league games with a lifetime average of .283 with 85 HR and 523 RBI.
In announcing the move on Sunday, Pride general manager Todd Marlin said, "Orlando Miller will give us a veteran to back-up regular shortstop Pete Shier. We're hoping he can step right in over the next two weeks and help the Pride win the first half North Division title."
Miller will report to the Pride in time for Monday night's road game with the Bridgeport Bluefish.
