Namazi Has Suspension Reduced
January 14, 2006 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS - The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced yesterday afternoon that following an official appeal from the St. Louis Steamers and a subsequent hearing between the MISL and the Steamers the League has reduced the discipline handed down by the MISL to head coach Omid Namazi from five additional games to three, following further consideration of the facts and circumstances surrounding Namazi's inappropriate actions that followed the referee's decision to issue the Steamers' head coach a red card late in St. Louis' 7-6 overtime win over the Philadelphia KiXX on Saturday, January 7, 2006. Namazi was originally suspended by the MISL on Wednesday for a total of five additional games for improper physical contact with a game official.
Namazi has already served his automatic one-game suspension for receiving a red card by sitting out Sunday's (Jan. 8) 6-4 Steamers' loss to the host Chicago Storm. He began serving his additional three-game suspension last night (Jan. 13), when the Steamers defeated the Milwaukee Wave, 10-4, in Milwaukee. Collinsville, IL native, Joe Reiniger served as Head Coach for the game. The additional two games include Saturday, January 21 at California, and Tuesday, January 24 versus Baltimore. It is yet to be determined who will serve behind the bench for the Steamers in those games. That will be made on a game-by-game basis.
The St. Louis Steamers exercised their right to appeal the discipline imposed on Namazi by the MISL. Accordingly, Namazi will be eligible to return to the St. Louis bench for the Steamers January 28th visit to Baltimore, to play the Blast at 7:35 p.m. (EST).
