Mustangs stampede over Fast-Break

November 29, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release

In a dominating opening performance the Southeast Texas Mustangs stampeded past the DFW Fast-Break Traveling All-Star Team 117-79 in their first action of the season in an exhibition game at Ford Park Arena on Saturday night.

The Mustangs jumped out to a big first quarter lead and never looked back to defeat the All-Star Team from Dallas/Fort Worth. The Mustangs led 33-16 at the end of the first quarter and carried a 59-36 lead into the locker-room at half-time.

Led by forwards Lamar Sanders and Currye Todd the Mustangs had four players in double figures and had balanced scoring throughout their deep line-up. Spirited play off the Mustangs bench by Port Arthur native Donnie Jackson was a highlight of the game. Jackson tallied 8 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Steve Alexander and Anthony Lumpkin also contributed 11 points a piece off the Mustangs bench.

"I think we have to keep things in perspective, for what we did tonight we were supposed to do! I think the thing that was most impressive was the manner we did it in by beating a really good team from the DFW Metroplex by such a big margin. I think we showed tonight we can really be a championship caliber team! We now have to get focused in on taking on the Houston Takers next Saturday night as we tip-off our regular season!" stated SETX Mustangs General Manager and Head Coach Steve Tucker.

The Mustangs will host the Houston Takers in their ABA regular season opener at home at Ford Park Arena next Saturday night, December 6th. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 PM. Every seat in the Arena will be on sale for $5.00 in support of all that were affected by Hurricane Ike. "It is important that we give something back to the community after so much devastation was felt by all in this region of Texas and throughout the Golden Triangle area. We hope the fans will help us pack the Arena next Saturday night as we tip-off our regular season." stated Coach Tucker.

The Mustangs will announce their Active Roster as they break Training Camp this upcoming Thursday. MUSTANGS SEASON TICKETS ARE STILL ON SALE.
