Mustangs Roll To 23rd Straight Victory

March 9, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release

The #1 ranked Southeast Texas Mustangs (25-1) rolled to a 142-66 victory over the Texas City Rangers on Sunday afternoon at the Ford Arena in Beaumont, TX. The Mustangs have now won 23 straight games in a row!

Southeast Texas wasted no time on Sunday as South Division Rookie of the Year Currye Todd scored 14 first quarter points (9 of them on long range 3 point baskets) to pace the Mustangs out of the blocks. The Mustangs stifling defense held the Rangers to just 10 first period points and the Mustangs found themselves up 38-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Southeast Texas continued their powerful onslaught on both ends of the court in the second quarter as Boo Richardson and Donnie Jackson led the way for the Mustangs, and Southeast Texas went in up 73-30 at halftime.

The Southeast Texas Mustangs left nothing in doubt in the second half as they came out of the locker-room at halftime on a stampede to roll over the Rangers by an incredible 76 points. This was the Mustangs most dominating win of the season as the final score read 142-66 as the final buzzer sounded.

Every player played in the game for Southeast Texas and 8 Mustangs scored in double figures. Todd led the Mustangs in scoring with 23 points.

With the ABA Finals right around the corner no one knows better what the Mustangs must do to achieve its ultimate goal of bringing this season's ABA Championship back to the Golden Triangle in Southeast Texas than Mustangs General Manager/Head Coach Steve Tucker.

"We know what we have to do and what level we have to be playing on to win the ABA Championship! I think every player in our organization knows that we have to keep working to improve and not get satisfied with where we are now. For to be frank, we've done nothing yet, and we know the big games are waiting for us just ahead in Nashville, TN. There will be a lot of good teams there in Nashville at the ABA Finals, and it should be interesting for sure!"

The Mustangs will finish their ABA regular season this Thursday night at the Ford Arena against the Converse Flight out of San Antonio, TX. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM. ALL TICKETS ARE FREE FOR THIS LAST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON!
