Mustangs Put On Dominating Performance Against Takers

December 14, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release

Beaumont, TX. The ABA Southeast Texas Mustangs wanted to have a dominating performance Friday night at home against the Houston Takers and that is exactly what they did by defeating the Takers, 106-67.

Houston came out scorching hot from the perimeter as they hit three 3-pointers three minutes into the game and raced out to a 14-4 first quarter score. The Mustangs called time-out and from that point, the domination of the game began. A 26 to 6 run put the Mustangs up 30-20 after the conclusion of the first quarter and the Mustangs never looked back as they raced out to a 63-36 halftime lead.

"Our focus at the half was to make sure that we came out the second half ready to play," stated Mustangs head coach Steve Tucker. "We know if we are not at our best that we are as vulnerable as any team. With that in mind, we came out in the third quarter to take total control of the game."

In the second half, the Mustangs continued their hot shooting and sizzling defense to stretch their lead out to forty points. Former Lamar University basketball player Currye Todd led the Mustangs in scoring with 23 points while Donald Harris, Jerry Williams and Lamar Sanders chipped in 16, 15 and 12 points respectively. Mustangs point guard Tim Pledger recorded a double/double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The SETX Mustangs are currently ranked #10 in the ABA Power Rankings but they hope to move up this week as they travel to play the South Texas Showboats. The Mustangs will play the Mississippi Blues on the road on Wednesday and will return home on Sunday, Dec 21 & 22 and will host the Mississippi Blues.
