Milwaukee Mustangs News Release
MILWAUKEE (February 28, 2012) - The Milwaukee Mustangs announce the signing of arena football veterans Damian Harrell and Doug Lytle to the 2012 coaching staff.
Lytle joins the Mustangs for his first season as the team's defensive coordinator. Lytle was previously the defensive coordinator of the AFL's Columbus Destroyers in 2008 and spent four seasons with the Green Bay Blizzard of af2 from 2005-2008. Lytle helped guide Green Bay to the playoffs in his first two seasons as FB/LB/special teams coach, including an appearance in Arena Cup 7 in 2006. He was named head coach the following season and led the Blizzard to a second consecutive berth in the American Conference championship game. In 2008, Lytle was named defensive coordinator and vice president of football operations, leading the league's top-ranked defense.
Lytle began his arena football career as a center/nose tackle for the Milwaukee Mustangs from 2000-2001, playing under head coach, Bob Landsee. He followed Landsee and fellow assistant coach Mark Stoute to the Toronto Phantoms in 2002 before playing the 2003 season with the Dallas Desperados. Lytle finished his career with the Indiana Firebirds in 2004 under Landsee.
Harrell enters his first season as wide receivers/special teams coach for Milwaukee after playing 12 standout seasons at wide receiver in the Arena Football League, most recently for Milwaukee during the 2010-2011 seasons. Harrell finished his career as the AFL's all-time record holder in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, and was named a two-time AFL offensive player of the year and first-team All-Arena selection as a member of the Colorado Crush from 2005-2006. He posted career-high 152 receptions for 1,920 yards and AFL-record 60 touchdown receptions in 2006.
The 2012 Milwaukee Mustangs are thrilled to honor and represent the Arena Football League as they celebrate their Silver 25th Anniversary this season. Tickets and sponsorships on sale now!
