Calgary Mustangs News Release
On a cool, dreary day neither team could muster a goal
The first chance of the game fell to the Mustang's Ernesto Zapata whose side-footed attempt on goal from a free-kick was palmed away by the Minnesota keeper.
Minnesota had their first attempt on goal in the 16th minute, when Marco Ferruzzi had a shot from 30 yards out that was easily smothered by Lutz Pfannenstiel;
5 minutes later Ernesto Zapata had another shot on net, this time from 25 yards out, but the ball skidded just wide right of the post.
In the 34th minute the ball was scrambled in the Minnesota box and Mesut Mert ran on to it but his shot crossed the front of the net and went just by the left post,
15 minutes later Minnesota had a great chance to score the first goal, but two great saves from Pfannenstiel, the first off his chest then the rebound was palmed away for a corner.
On 59 minutes Minnesota's Dave Castellano got his head on a well placed cross from the right-wing, but the ball sailed over the cross-bar.
At the 64 minute mark, Conrad Smith broke through the Minnesota defense, but cracked the ball wide of the left hand post
In the 80th Zapata's shot from 25 yards out was lobbed over the keeper, but looped over the cross-bar as well.
The score after 90 minutes: 0 â 0
4 minutes into over-time, Conrad Smith once again could have been the hero, when he ran on to a looping pass from Steffen Holdt, but his shot was put over the cross-bar again.
In the 97th minute Geert Brusselers broke through Minnesota's box, but his shot was also wide of the mark
The last chance of the game fell to the Mustangs in the 107th minute, when Conrad Smith was put through and blasted a shot on target from 20 yards out, but the keeper made a great save to keep the game goal-less.
