January 26, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux City Musketeers News Release
The Musketeers took 2 of 4 points away after a 6-3 win over the Lincoln Stars and a 6-1 loss to the Omaha Lancers and now have a 13-14-6-1 record in their 34 games completed and have 28 games remaining in the 2019-20 regular season.
The weekend started at the Ice Box in Lincoln, Nebraska as the Stars took on the Musketeers for the 3rd time this season and for the first time on Lincoln's home turf. The Stars coming off two wins against the USA National Team Development Program U17's kept the momentum in their favor after jumping to a quick 2-0 lead. Then the Musketeers would strike with 7:26 left in the first period courtesy of Sam Stange the Musketeers leading goal scorer who would chalk up his 20th goal of the season to make it 2-1, but the Stars wanted their 2 goal lead back as the Stars struck with 5:57 left in the period to make it 3-1 Stars. That would be it for the scoring for the Stars in the game as the Musketeers fired off 3 unanswered goals starting with Sam Antenucci with 3:44 left in the first period to bring the Musketeers within 1, followed up by Tommy Pasanen with his 2nd goal of the season with 1:54 left in the first period to tie it up 3-3. Jaden Grant would give the Musketeers their first lead of the game with the score at 4-3 heading into the locker rooms. The second period would be all defense as no one was able to score and a lot of big hits were delivered as the Musketeers defended their 4-3 lead. The Musketeers would put the Stars away as Tommy Pasanen was able to score his 2nd goal of the game and 3rd of the season. Sam Antenucci would also scored his 2nd goal of the game with an empty netter to secure the 6-3 victory and two points.
The Musketeers looked to ride the momentum the hour drive into Omaha, but after a high energy game the Lancers proved a tough team as it would be 2-0 Omaha after the 1st and 2nd, but then Omaha's offense would come alive as the Lancers would score 3 more goals before Akira Shmid was pulled and Ethan Haider was put in the game and allowed 1 of his own. To make it 6-0 Lancers. The Musketeers would fight down to the final horn as Nolan Krenzen was able to score with 2:37 left to play in the final period to ruin the Lancers chance at a shutout.
The Musketeers return home this weekend for a Friday, January 31st matchup with the Tri-City Storm at 7:05 P.M. and then the Omaha Lancers on Saturday, February 1st at 7:05 P.M for the 2nd annual Teacher's Dash for Cash sponsored by Fleet Farm, Great Western Bank and Vern Eide Honda.
