Muskegon Thunder News Release

The Muskegon Thunder improve to 1-1 on the season while the Raptors fall to 0-2.

Thunder quarterback Dan Richard (Rockford native) came off the bench to throw three TDs and rush for another in relief of starter Ryan Ferguson to guide Muskegon to the victory. Muskegon native Preston Garris (GVSU grad) scored twice including the final score of the game that forced RR to go for a touchdown on their final drive.

On the Raptor's last chance to tie the contest, they faced a fourth and goal at the Thunder nine yard line with 40 seconds remaining. Muskegon linebacker Mitch Cumings (Holton High and Hope College) hauled down a scrambling Raptor QB at the five yard line to secure the win.

The visiting Raptors edged the Thunder in total yards, 189-142 and the hosts overcame four turnovers to get the win. The Muskegon defense, spearheaded by Montague native Ernest Bentz, stopped RR four times inside the Thunder 10 yard line. Bentz blocked two kicks and forced a key fumble in the fourt quarter that the Thunder eventually turned into the winning score.

Muskegon will travel to Milwaukee to take on the Bonecrushers next Saturday night, March 29th at 7:30 C.S.T. while the Raptors will host the Chicago Slaughter that same night.
