FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 24, 2012) - Jim Murphy launched a two-run home run and a trio of Clearwater pitchers limited Fort Myers to six hits as the Threshers defeated the Miracle 2-1 on Thursday.

After dropping the first two games of the series, the Threshers recovered to earn a split with the Miracle at Hammond Stadium in their only visit to Fort Myers.

The Miracle got on the board first in the third. Daniel Santana led off the frame with a bunt single. Daniel Ortiz followed with a double to left-center that scored Santana to make it 1-0.

It could have been a much bigger inning for the Miracle, but Lance Ray grounded into a 4-6-3 double play with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Clearwater jumped on top in the fourth on an error by Jairo Perez at third and a mistake pitch by starter Madison Boer. Albert Cartwright started the inning with a routine grounder to third, but Perez whiffed and the ball found its way into left field. Two batters later Boer left a pitch over the middle of the plate that Murphy bashed for a two-run homer and a 2-1 lead.

That was enough for Threshers starter Perci Garner and the bullpen. Garner pitched six innings and allowed just four hits and one run. He walked five but was able to retire the last six batters he faced.

Hector Neris pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Colby Shreve stranded the tying run on third in the ninth for the save.

After the third inning only two Miracle runners reached second base. Ortiz belted a two-out double to center in the seventh, but he was stranded when Perez popped out to second.

Josmil Pinto started the ninth with a double to right-center, but pinch runner Angel Morales didn't score to extend the game. Shreve struck out Michael Gonzales, retired Levi Michael on a ground out and struck out Santana to end the game with Morales on third.

Boer took the loss in his best outing in a Miracle uniform. He pitched five innings and gave up three hits, two runs and struck out three.

Garner picked up his second win and Shreve collected his second save.

Ortiz went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles for the Miracle.

The Miracle (18-29) will begin a three-game series with the Palm Beach Cardinals at Hammond Stadium on Friday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

Join the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman and Adam MacDonald for the broadcast at 6:45 p.m. on miraclebaseball.com.
