Orlando Predators News Release

Orlando, Fla. (March 21) - The Predators coaches learned that another starter for will not be available for Monday night's nationally televised game against the Dallas Desperados, as trainers ruled defensive end Chaz Murphy out with a hamstring injury.

Murphy injured the hamstring during the first half of Friday's 45-30 win over Austin. He did not return to the game after the injury. On Wednesday, the team placed Murphy on the injured reserve list, meaning that he will not be eligible to return until the April 20 game with the New York Dragons.

"We sort of learned our lesson with Jimmy Fryzel," Predators head coach Jay Gruden said. "There's no sense trying to rush him back and risk additional injury. Chaz is going to be an important part of this team and we will need him for the stretch run."

It is the third starter that the Predators have lost in the first three weeks. Earlier, the team lost Fryzel who was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, while starting offensive guard Jim Sodano was lost for the season with a knee injury.

Former Philadelphia Eagle and UCF star Greg Jefferson will take Murphy's spot on the Predators roster. Jefferson signed with the Predators in the off-season, but was released during training camp. He played six seasons with the Eagles, recording 192 tackles and 13.5 quarterback sacks from 1995-2000. He was signed to a one-year contract on Wednesday and is expected to start on Monday night.
