WINSTON-SALEM, NC - A pair of three-run innings proved to be enough for Carolina as the Mudcats edged the Dash 7-3 Saturday evening at BB&T Ballpark.

Winston-Salem (4-4), jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first after a Trayce Thompson home run to left field that nearly cleared the back wall of BB&T Ballpark.

Carolina (5-3) responded in the second inning with three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Mudcats extended the lead in the third with a three run blast from Carlos Moncrief. Dash starting pitcher Spencer Arroyo (0-1) exited after three innings.

The Dash loaded the bases in the fourth but Mudcats starter Michael Goodnight (1-0) got out of the inning after allowing an unearned run. A pair of singles to lead off the fifth inning loaded the bases for Winston-Salem, but the Dash stranded three in the inning.

Missed opportunities plagued Winston-Salem throughout the game. The Dash stranded 10 runners and went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Phil Negus, Kyle Bellamy, and Paul Burnside combined to pitch six innings in relief for Winston-Salem, striking out eight batters and allowing an unearned run.

The Mudcats bullpen allowed only two hits and pitched four scoreless innings to quash any hopes of a Dash rally.

A 2:00 p.m. start Sunday wraps up the three game series between the Dash and Mudcats. Right-handed Ryan Buch (0-0, 15.00 ERA) gets the nod for Winston-Salem. He will oppose the southpaw T.J. House (1-0, 0.00 ERA). Pregame coverage starts at 1:45 on wsdash.com.
