Mudbugs to Face Eagles in President's Cup Finals
May 12, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Berry Conference Champion Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs finally have an opponent for the Central Hockey League Championship series, as they will battle the longtime rival Colorado Eagles in the 2011 CHL Ray Miron President's Cup Finals, presented by Harrah's Louisiana Downs. The Eagles defeated the defending President's Cup Champion Rapid City Rush 1-0 Wednesday night in Game 7 of the Turner Confere nce Finals and will have home-ice advantage as they face the Mudbugs for the league title.
The best-of-seven President's Cup Finals will feature a 2-3-2 series format, meaning the lower-seeded Mudbugs will start the series with a pair of road games in Colorado before hosting the next three contests at home. Games 1 and 2 are set for 8:05 pm Central Time Friday and Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.
The series will then shift to Bossier City for Game 3 on Tuesday, May 17, with Game 4 to follow on Thursday, May 19 at the CenturyTel Center. If necessary, Game 5 will be played the very next night on Friday, May 20. Opening faceoff will be 7:05 pm for all three Mudbugs home games in the Finals. If necessary, Bossier-Shreveport would then travel back to Colorado to finish the series with Games 6 and 7 on the road.
The Mudbugs and Eagles are facing one another in the playoffs for the third consecutive year, following a pair of Northern Conference Semifinal matchups in each of the last two seasons. The ¬ËBugs were swept by Colorado in 2009 before returning the favor with their own sweep of the Eagles in last year's playoffs.
The teams also faced-off in the 2006 postseason, when Bossier-Shreveport defeated Colorado in five games to win the Northern Conference and earn their last trip to the league finals. With the Mudbugs switching conferences prior to this year, the fourth playoff series between these two CHL powerhouses will be the first in which the President's Cup is on the line.
