
Mudbugs Pound the Bears

Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (34-7-3-2) scored in bunches in the second period to help pound the Kenai River Brown Bears, 5-1 Friday night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Mudbugs scored first in the first period when Ryan Burnett was able to flip in his 12th goal of the season on the short side giving Shreveport an early 1-0 lead at 7:02. Cole Quisenberry & Jordan Fader grabbed the assists on Burnett's goal. Bugs led 1-0 after the opening period of play.
Shreveport continued their dominating play in the 2nd period when Jacob Holmers banged in a juicy rebound for his fifth goal of the season giving the Bugs a 2-0 lead at 7:57. Cam Cook followed with a deek move for a shorthanded goal and his 20th tally to give Shreveport a commanding 3-0 edge at 12:18. The Mudbugs would top off the middle frame when Jake Transit rifled home his 10th goal of the year at 17:47 from a perfect dish pass from Holmers giving the a Mudbugs a 4-0 lead after two periods of play.
Warren Natyshak would power in his second goal of the year in the third period at 12:01 to give the Bugs a 5-0 edge. Jaxon Castor's streak of not allowing a goal would end at 199 mins.
Castor gets his fourth straight win in net for Shreveport. The Phoenix, Arizona native stopped 17 shots on the night.
The Mudbugs and Brown Bears conclude their two-game set tomorrow night at Georges Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:11pm. ?
