Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

THE BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT MUDBUGS have announced the return of two key forwards and familiar faces to the Ark-La-Tex. Dan Wildfong and Jason Campbell have been re-signed for the 2002-03 season, which will be their fourth with the club. The Mudbugs also announced the signing of forward Willie Hubloo for the upcoming Central Hockey League season.

Wildfong, 26, appeared in all 64 games for the Mudbugs last season and set career highs in goals (30) and penalty minutes (340). The Clinton, Ontario native finished second on the team in scoring during the 2001-02 season with 66 points and led the team with a plus-minus rating of +16. Wildfong has scored 201 points during his three-year Mudbug career.

Jason Campbell appeared in 49 games with the Mudbugs last season as injuries kept him out of the lineup for two three-week portions. Campbell still managed to finish third on the team with 55 points and second in goals with a career-high 25. The Mudbugs center had three four-point games last year and three hat tricks.

"Both Fonger and Soupy are very important to our hockey club," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Scott Muscutt. "Dan brings grit and a scoring up front and is a great member of our community. Jason has also been great with our fans and is a tremendous all-around center who's very valuable to our penalty-killing unit." Dan Wildfong and Jason Campbell burst onto the Mudbugs scene during the 1999-2000 season. Both players enjoyed outstanding rookie seasons and helped the Bugs win their second consecutive President's Cup Championship. Their second season with Bossier-Shreveport was equally as memorable as they helped the Mudbugs win the 2000-01 President's Cup title. Campbell was named the MVP of the 2001 WPHL playoffs. Yesterday, the team also announced their seventh player signing for the 2002-03 hockey season. Forward Willie Hubloo has agreed to terms with the Mudbugs.

Hubloo hails from Kuujjuaq, Quebec, a small town at the northern point of the province. He played junior hockey until the age of 21 with the Charlottetown Abbies of the Maritime Junior ‘A' Hockey League. As team captain of the Abbies, Hubloo led the team in scoring during the 1999 season and was also the leading scorer of the Royal Bank Cup Junior ‘A' National Championship. He was also a runner-up for 1999 Junior ‘A' Player of the Year honors. During the 2000 season, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the MJAHL playoffs, scoring 38 points in 15 games. This season will be Hubloo's rookie year.

"The scouting report on Willie says that he's very good with the puck and can score goals," said Muscutt. "He's a really exciting player and we're looking forward to seeing what he can bring to our club." The signings of Wildfong, Campbell, and Hubloo bring the Mudbugs' 2002-03 total to seven. Earlier during the off-season, the Mudbugs announced the return of three forwards including last year's leading scorer Forbes MacPherson, fellow veteran Trevor Buchanan, and newcomer Chris Brassard. The team's first off-season signee was goaltender Ken Carroll who re-joins the club for his second stint with the Mudbugs.
