Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs hold off the Lone Star Brahmas, 3-2 to win game 5 and advance to the Robertson Cup Final Four in Minnesota.
The Mudbugs exploded in the first period when Roberts Baranovskis banged in a juicy rebound in front for a PP goal assisted by Andrew Lane at 8:41 giving Shreveport the early 1-0 edge. Then just nine seconds later, Jack Jaunich used his lightning quick speed to take advantage of a blown tire in the Brahmas blueline and fire home his first goal of the playoffs giving the Bugs a big 2-0 lead and sending the home crowd into a frenzy. The Bugs owned a 2-0 edge after one period of play.
After Lone Star scored to open up the second period, Baranovskis buried home his 2nd goal of the night after a perfect pass from Brendan VanSweden at 3:27 giving Shreveport their two goal lead back at 3-1. The Bugs led in SOG, 17-15 after two periods of play.
Lone Star's Justin Addamo raced down the far end to beat Jaxon Castor to pull the Brahmas within one again at 3-2 at 4:25 of the third period. That would be the closest Lone Star would get and Castor and the Bugs held off a late surge from the defending Robby Cup Champs to win game 5, 3-2 and advance to the Robertson Cup Final Four in Blaine, Minnesota.
