Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- The Muckdogs open up a three game series against the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox). This is the only series the two teams play all season. Last year, Batavia took two from the Spinners at Dwyer Stadium.
That was yesterday- The first extra inning the Muckdogs had played all season resulted in a 2-1 loss to the Connecticut Tigers. Batavia dropped the series two games to one. The game was scoreless through the first nine innings. Each team plated a run in the tenth, but the Muckdogs could not execute in the eleventh, and an error allowed the winning run to cross the plate in the bottom half of the frame.
Flipping the script- To start off the season, Batavia had settled themselves within the top five in the NYPL in batting average and runs, but have since slipped from that peak. Meanwhile, the opposite has happened for the pitching staff. The Muckdogs arms have now settled with the fourth best ERA in the league.
Donadio digging in- Michael Donadio has now hits in six of his last seven games. He's tallied six hits, and has crossed the plate four times in that span. He left St. John's with the second most all-time hits with 268.
Runs, Runs, Runs- Batavia has some of the top scorers in the league, with Sean Reynolds sitting in second place with 19 runs scored, Jerar Encarnacion and Demetrius Sims with 15 in sixth place. The Muckdogs have three of the top seven run scorers in the league, and sit in fifth in total runs scored with 122 total runs this season.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 15 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 4-11 in those contests.
Recent Roster Action- On July 13th, RHP Jameson McGrane was called up to Greensboro.
Marlins Update- Jake Arrieta was the starter for the Phillies and was key to helping Philadelphia toss a three-hit shutout over Miami last night.
