Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
NILES, OH - Renegades pitchers shutout their opponent for the third consecutive game, holding the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to three hits in a 1-0 win Saturday night at Eastwood Field. Hudson Valley has not allowed a run in the last 28 innings and has outscored their opponents 11-0.
The lone run of the night came in the second inning. Designated hitter Erik Ostberg led off with a lined double to right. Two batters later, rightfielder Jake Stone drove him in with a groundball single to right to put the Renegades on the board.
That was all Hudson Valley would need as starting pitcher Blake Pflughaupt and reliever Tanner Dodson combined to keep the Scrappers off the scoreboard. Pflughaupt (2-1) got the win by tossing six scoreless innings and giving up a double and two singles to Mahoning Valley. Dodson (1) recorded his first professional save with three hitless frames and three strikeouts.
The tough-luck loser for Mahoning Valley was starter Luis Oviedo (3-1) who lost his first game of the season by allowing the lone run on five hits in six innings. His ERA still sits at a miniscule 0.53 for the season.
The best chance for the Scrappers to score came in the bottom of the second when they put runners at the corners with nobody out. However, Pflughaupt got catcher Jason Rodriguez to line to second, and designated hitter Clark Scolamiero to line into a 6-3 double play as leftfielder Hosea Nelson was caught too far off first following the lineout to Renegades shortstop Tyler Frank.
Hudson Valley had six hits in the game including two apiece from Ostberg and first baseman Allen Smoot. Ostberg's double was the only extra base-hit for the Renegades. Nobody had more than one hit for Mahoning Valley, though first baseman Mitch Reeves did collect a double.
Hudson Valley will face Mahoning Valley for game two of their three-game series tomorrow at 4:05. Righty Joe Ryan (1-0, 1.04 ERA) will be on the hill for the Renegades against fellow righty Cameron Mingo (1-2, 5.56 ERA) of the Scrappers.
The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday, July 17th when they begin a six-game homestand against the Connecticut Tigers beginning at 7:05. Tickets can be purchased online at hvrenegades.com or by calling the ticket office at 845-838-0094.
