Morrow helps Blazers down Brahmas, 3-1

Dallas Stars left wing Brenden Morrow made the most of his on ice return to the Metroplex on Friday night, assisting on two Oklahoma City Blazers goals to help lead the Blazers to a 3-1 victory over the Fort Worth Brahmas in front of 5,783 fans at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
Morrow, the only NHL player currently playing the in the CHL, picked up the primary assist on each of the first two Blazers goals of the game. At the 13:37 mark of the first period, he helped out on Michel Beausoleil's rebound goal. Then, late in the second period, he fired a nifty cross ice pass to d-man Hardy Sauter to set up Sauter's powerplay goal that proved to be the game winning marker for the Blazers.
Special teams was the difference in the game, as Fort Worth failed to capitalize on two five-on-three powerplays, one in the first period, and one in the third period. Altogether in the game, the Brahmas were 0 for 6 with the man advantage. Oklahoma City, conversely, collected the game winning goal when the aforementioned Sauter scored with the Blazers on a two-man advantage in the second period.
Winger Derrell Upton scored the only goal of the game for Fort Worth, firing home his fifth lamplighter of the season at the 5:31 mark of the second period off of assists from center Aaron Davis and d-man Brandon Carper.
Goaltender Dan Murphy was solid in defeat for Fort Worth, stopping 27 of the 29 Blazers shots sent his way. Murphy was pulled for an extra attacker with 40 seconds left in the third period before Oklahoma City forward Pat Hallet scored into the empty net with just 29 seconds left on the clock to set the final score at 3-1.
Boyd Ballard picked up his second win of the season in goal for the Blazers, turning away 28 of the 29 Brahmas shots he faced in the game.
The loss drops Fort Worth's record to 11-4-1 on the season. The Brahmas do, however, remain in first place in the Northeast Division, as they hold a two point standing lead on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
Fort Worth will try to get back on the winning track on Saturday night, Dec. 4, as they host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The game will be ESPN Radio 103.3 FM backpack night, as the first 2,000 kids 12 and under through the gates will receive a free Brahmas backpack courtesy of ESPN Radio 103.3 FM. The Brahmas will also be holding their annual Teddy Bear Toss promotion, as fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used teddy bear or stuffed animal to the game and throw the animals on the ice when the Brahmas score their first goal against the Killer Bees.
