
Moreland returns and backstops Hogs to 4-1 win

Elmira, NY- In his first game in nearly a month-and-a-half, Rockford IceHogs goalie Jake Moreland had a strong outing in leading the Hogs to a 4-1 win over the Elmira Jackals at First Arena. Moreland made 20 saves in leading Rockford to its seventh-straight win. The win also extended the IceHogs unbeaten streak to a club-record 13-straight games (12-0-1) and its road unbeaten streak to nine straight (8-0-1), tying a club mark.
After falling behind 2-0 Saturday night, Rockford turned the tables on Sunday. Center Kevin Ulanski put the IceHogs up 1-0 while the IceHogs skated short-handed. Ulanski wristed home his 22nd marker of the season at 9:53 unassisted. The IceHogs lead was then extended to 2-0 when Mike Doyle finished off a 3-on-2 rush to net his 13th goal at 16:56.
In the second period Rockford tallied on the power play making it 3-0. Doyle set up winger Chaz Johnson who sniped home his 14th goal of the season past Kris Tebbs at 4:18 while Rockford was on the 5-on-4 advantage.
Elmira ruined Moreland's shutout in the final frame when Frank Littlejohn tipped in a long rebound off of the back glass at 4:03 on the power play, making it 3-1. The Hogs, however, would ice the game on a 5-on-3 advantage late in the third period. Ulanski set up defenseman Luke Fritshaw who hammered in his fifth goal of the campaign at 18:32.
Both clubs had seven chances on the power play and Rockford converted on two of them and the Jackals one.. Tebbs made 20 saves for Elmira in the loss.
Next Homestand: Friday, March 2 vs. Port Huron Flags. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Flags and Hogs hook up for the final time this season when they meet at the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive IceHogs Poster #6 from Pepsi, Medicine Man, Johnson Press and the Rockford Register Star.
Saturday, March 3 vs. Quad City Mallards. The puck is slated to drop at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs host its Eighth Annual Jersey Auction for charity as the archrival Mallards return to Rockford. The Hogs will don commemorative jersey's that will get auctioned off immediately following the game. The first 1,000 fans to the game will pick-up an IceHogs T-shirt featuring Hammysaurus Rex courtesy of Axberg Heating, Saturn of Rockford, Ameriprise Financial and Dental Dimensions.
Also, before both games, the IceHogs will host a United States Hockey League game between the Chicago Steel and Sioux City Musketeers. The game on Friday, March 2 starts at 3:30 p.m. and the contest on Saturday, March 3 will begin at 3 p.m. Tickets purchased for either game is good for both the IceHogs and Steel contests.
