Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) is pleased to announce that Storm defensive lineman Cory Johnsen and offensive lineman Vinnie Olson have joined teams from the Arena Football League (AFL). Johnsen will join the Grand Rapids Rampage and Olsen will go to training camp with the Colorado Crush. Johnsen and Olson just completed their first season of indoor football as members of the Storm.

Johnsen played in 16 games during 2006 for the Storm. He compiled 27 tackles with 9 of those for loss. Johnsen also scored a touchdown after recovering a fumble in a game vs. Rock River last season. Johnsen, who was a three-year starter at St. Cloud State, had his best collegiate season in 2004. The Aberdeen, SD native had 33 tackles and 2.5 sacks as well as being named to the All-NCC Second Team during the 2004 campaign. Johnsen was hampered by a groin injury in 2005 and still managed 12 tackles and 2 sacks after missing 4 games as the Huskies went 8-3.

Olson started five games for the Storm in 2006 as he adjusted to the indoor game. The Rapid City, SD native finished his playing career at the University of Sioux Falls (USF) in 2004 where he led the Cougars to an undefeated regular season in 2004 and was named to the NAIA Division II All-American First Team. Olson was also named to the American Football Coaches Association All-American Team, which combines NAIA and NCAA Division II. During Olson's two years at USF, the Cougars went 23-2.

Johnsen and Olson join former Storm defensive back Kevin Adams (Utah Blaze), defensive lineman Mike Lawson (Grand Rapids), wide receiver James Terry (Nashville Kats) and quarterback Scott Rislov (San Jose SaberCats) on AFL training camp rosters. AFL training camps opened last week with season opening games scheduled to begin on March 1.

The AFL is considered the premier arena league in the country and is a stepping-stone to the NFL and a stepping-stone for Storm players. The AFL has been in existence for 21 years and currently has 19 franchises.
