Bloomington was busy signing a former college star for the Extreme as was reported by the Register-Mail. Speaking of coaches...the Coloradoan interviewed Ice head coach Collins Sanders. UIF communications assistant Brad Green's story about Billings head coach Heron O'Neal and Rock River safety Jermaine Hampton's Super Bowl ties was picked up by the Billings Gazette.
Gearing Up Rosters around the league are filling up. Training Camp opens March 9th. Teams will have two weeks to get ready for their first games. The brand new Colorado Ice kick off the UIF season hosting Billings at 7 p.m. MT Friday, March 23rd. The rest of Week One's games will all be played on Saturday, March 24th. Lexington travels to Ohio Valley for a 7:05 p.m. ET kick off. In the central time zone: Omaha goes to Sioux City, Sioux Falls is at Rock River and RiverCity travels to Evansville. All of those games begin at 7:05 p.m.
Interning The UIF front office is filling up. Brad Green has been with the league since early January helping in the communications department. Recently Kayla Schlechter began helping in the operations and expansion areas. Jason Swier joined the crew this week and is assisting in sales and marketing.
The Extra Point Regardless of their records on-the-field, all UIF teams are winners off-the-field because of the invaluable community service they provide. This year, the league office is tallying the community service hours players, coaches, mascots, dancers and staff contribute to their local communities. For each hour served, the team receives an "extra point." At the end of the year, the team with the most Extra Points will have a donation made in their name to the charity of their choice.
