New York Dragons News Release
(June 5, 2008) - Three of the Dragon's most notable veterans will each have the chance to surpass major milestones for the season when the Dragons take on the VooDoo this Saturday in a pivotal matchup in the playoff push.
QB Aaron Garcia will be looking to surpass 3,000 passing yards for the seventh time in his career. Garcia only needs 190 passing yards in the upcoming matchup to get to that mark, and this season he is averaging 255 yards per game.
WR/LB Chris Anthony is close to two major season milestones, needing just one reception to achieve 100 on the year and 39 receiving yards to reach 1,000. With 99 receptions, 961 yards and 20 touchdowns in 13 games this season, Anthony has already recorded career highs in all three categories.
WR Kevin Swayne can also reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season for the sixth time in his extensive AFL career. Swayne needs 43 yards to reach that mark. He is also just 15 receptions away from 100 on the season, and it would be the first time in franchise history that three different receivers would have 100 receptions and 1,000 yards in the same season, as WR Jason Willis has already recorded 106 receptions for 1,244 yards this season.
The Dragons (7-6) currently hold the sixth and final playoff spot in the National Conference, while New Orleans (8-5) is sitting at fourth. Head Coach Weylan Harding does not like to use the term "must-win" or look past the game at hand, but even he admits that the game this Saturday is crucial.
"I'm expecting their best efforts, especially with them sitting in the same situation that we are in as far as trying to secure their spot in the playoffs," said Harding. "It's going to be tough on both sides."
