Evansville BlueCats News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats would like to announce the addition of four more players who have joined the team over the bye week as the team prepares for this weekend's game against the Bloomington Extreme. The players include wide receiver Drouzon Quillen, kicker Nate Meyer, defensive back Daniel Reese, and defensive back Hunter Pingston.
Drouzon Quillen played college football at the University of Louisiana-Monroe and was a college teammate of current BlueCats linebacker and UIF All-Star John Winchester. Drouzon led the team in receiving in 2004 and 2005 and finished his college career with 121 receptions, 1,979 yards, and 19 touchdowns in 3 seasons. He averaged an incredible 16.3 yards-per-catch over his career. His career long came on a 77-yard touchdown reception in a game against Arkansas. He also had a 76-yard touchdown reception against Florida International. Drouzon's college career began as a true freshman in 2002 before he was redshirted in 2003 following an injury in preseason two-a-days on a practice play that ironically involved linebacker John Winchester.
After developing a reputation for making big plays at Louisiana-Monroe, Quillen entered the NFL Draft following the 2005 season. He attended Rookie Camp with the Washington Redskins where he suffered a hamstring injury, and later earned a mini camp tryout with the Buffalo Bills.
Kicker Nate Meyer led Western Michigan in scoring last fall with 84 points, tied for 3rd best in school history among kickers. He finished his college career with 165 points on 30 field goals and 75 extra points, connecting on 63.8% of his field goal attempts and 96.2% of his extra point attempts. His connected on a career long of 50-yard field goal twice, once as a sophomore and once again as a senior. He played in the 2006 International Bowl against Cincinnati. Meyer recently completed his pre-medicine degree at Western Michigan and was accepted into medical school at the University of Michigan before signing with the BlueCats.
Defensive back David Reese originally enrolled at Temple in the spring of 2002. He played in all 12 games as a freshman at Temple, making 15 tackles and breaking up one pass. He attended Southeastern University in 2003 before returning to Temple in 2004 where he made 15 more tackles and broke up 4 passes. He sat out the 2005 season before his senior season last fall when he made 50 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, one interception, and 2 pass break ups. He also made one pass reception for 6 yards. He started in 10 of the 12 games at cornerback as a senior in 2006 and 14 of 31 games in his college career.
Defensive back Hunter Pingston played for Bethel College last fall and was a college teammate of current BlueCats quarterback Brent Dearmon. Just as Dearmon had been a leader of the Bethel College offense, Pingston was a leader on the Bethel College defense. Pingston led the team with 76 tackles last fall, including 3 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 8 pass break ups. His impressive senior season capped off a college career where he accumulated more than 200 career tackles and 14 interceptions.
