Morales Strokes Victory

Buddy Morales ended a wild night with a bases clearing double to drive home the winning runs in 3-2 Flyers victory. Rik Currier threw 8.1 no-hit innings until Rich Pohle grounded a clean single up the middle to break it up.

The Flyers finished off a four-game sweep of the Long Beach Armada in dramatic fashion when Buddy Morales drove a game-winning double to score all three Flyers' runs. The 9th inning rally started with one out when Trevor Hall reached on the Armada's fourth error of the night. Rich Pohle followed by breaking up Rik Currier's no-hitter.

Peanut Williams walked to end Currier's night. Mike Peck came in from the bullpen to strike out Joe Frazee for the second out.

Rik Currier struck out 11 batters and walked four. The no-hit bid would have been controversial due to two official scoring decisions that were originally hits and then were changed to errors.

To add to the intensity in the park, there were four ejections on the night. Both managers were tossed along with Flyers' 3B Hector Zamora and P Nick Casanova.

Long Beach took a lead in the 6th inning when Jeff Larue doubled down the third base line to score Randall Shelley from 1st base with two outs.

Jeremy Sugarman started the game for the Flyers, but he had to leave after the 3rd inning due to tightness in his pitching shoulder.

Nick Casanova threw three solid innings of relief. Ryan Olsen threw a scoreless 7th and 8th inning.

Jon Grijalva gave up a controversial run in the 9th inning on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Ryan Stevenson. It appeared that Jeff Larue, the runner at 3rd base, left the bag well before Trevor Hall made a sliding catch in left field.

Long Beach stranded the bases loaded in the 1st inning.

The Flyers picked up a game on Chico and got within a half game of first place.

Craig Frydendall will start a three-game series in San Diego beginning Friday at 7 pm.
