Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Tuesday, February, 12, 2013) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs have announced the signing of Jamill Moquette, a junior infielder/outfielder competing for UMass Boston in the Little East Conference.
"We are excited for Jamill to join the Dirt Dawgs for our second season," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations, "We feel he is going to be a great fit, both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. His game should translate well to the FCBL, and he is an important piece towards building a winning roster for 2013."
Moquette, a Boston, MA, native, had a highly productive season last year, both offensively and defensively. Moquette led UMass Boston with a team high .377 batting average to go along with 55 hits, 36 runs scored, 32 RBI, 4 HR, a .486 on base percentage, and .603 slugging rate.
Splitting time between shortstop and third base, the 6-foot-3, 194-pound junior finished the season with 44 putouts and 113 assists, for an .887 fielding percentage. His 88 total bases in 2012 rated as the 10th most in Beacon history.
Moquette was named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Region Third Team. He was also recently named to the College Baseball Newspaper Top DIII Players to Watch List for the 2013 season.
Moquette's coach, Brendan Eygabroat, is looking forward to his contributions this spring and summer.
"I am very excited for Jamill to play for the Dirt Dawgs this summer. Fans will enjoy watching Jamill play, he is a very gifted offensive player who can hit for both power and average. He is also a major threat on the base paths going 28-31 last season for the Beacons. Jamill has great versatility defensively. He played shortstop for us in 2012 and will be in the outfield in 2013. With his 6-foot-3 frame, he covers a ton of ground in the outfield. He has also really dedicated himself in the weight room this offseason. I expect him to have a very good spring and summer on the field," said Coach Eygabroat.
Moquette is looking forward to playing for the Dirt Dawgs this summer.
"I appreciate the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs for offering me the opportunity to play this summer," said Moquette, who played last summer in Virginia with the Winchester Royals of the Valley Baseball League, finishing with a .235 average, 4 home-runs, and a .371 on base percentage, "Now that I have the opportunity to play (summer baseball) in Massachusetts, my family and friends can come see me play at a very nice field that is also close to home."
In addition to playing, Moquette is looking forward to making bonds with his new teammates.
"I am looking to meet players from around the country and to make a bond with them. Last year, I formed very good friendships with a lot of the kids from my summer team. Also, meeting kids from different types of backgrounds and styles of play is something I look forward to," said Moquette.
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their season at home on June 6th at 6:35 p.m.
